Long-distance move from Morristown, NJ to Phoenix, AZ

A terrible company - do NOT use!!

Do NOT use this company. I relocated from New Jersey to Arizona in in January-2019. If I could give them 0 stars I would. This company fraudulently over-charged me for the cubic feet of goods shipped. I was required to pay after they took possession of my property. They also demanded a (fraudulent) $600 cash payment (to use a local shuttle truck that was not required) before they would un-load my property upon delivery. This was a scam. The delivery was made 2 weeks after the scheduled date. Communication during the move was pathetic and unacceptable. And of course, there was notable lost and damaged boxes and other property. I encourage you to AVOID this company,..Greg Moller 6/24/2019.

Long-distance move from Wilmington, NC to Glendale, AZ

The most unprofessional, unorganized and costly cross country move.

The list of issues I had with this moving company are incredibly extensive, but suffice to say that the quote I received from Presidential Van Lines was not even close to what I ended up paying. Presidential is a broker who told me that they do most of the moves themselves. That was an outright lie. They quoted me just over $5500, but then when the guys came to load up my stuff, of course it was way over the estimate. So after going to the weigh station, of course the act was so transparent. The guy went in to get the weight and of course, did not show me anything. But did tell me that my current weight would bring the cost to almost double the original quote. So then they scam me into going with a flat rate. Of course, I really had no choice as my stuff was already loaded into a BUDGET truck no less! So I agreed to their rip off and went on my way. I signed paperwork that said my stuff would be delivered between 6/10 and 6/11. But once they left NC, they took my stuff to NY and god only knows where it was for the next month, as I didn't get my stuff delivered until 6/28. Each phone call to inquire about my stuff was met with ignorance and lies. And then, EVERY SINGLE item that was returned to me was damaged and destroyed. They even had the nerve to return empty bins, showing and proving that quite obviously they had stolen items - about $3k worth of Coach purses and perfume! And the list goes on. I put in a claim with them on 8/14 and have yet to hear back. So I now have my attorney working on this for me. Damage and missing items comes to a total of almost $20K to repair and replace. NEVER use Presidential Van Lines (Florida), State to State NY or Direct Van Lines (New York) or Coast to Coast (Arizona).

Long-distance move from New York to California

I have copied the website above to ensure accuracy of the company I am referencing.
State to state provided a seemingly friendly and honest sales person who managed to secure us as clients. I was happy with choice and quote up until about 2 weeks before the move when trying to finalise inventory for accuracy and the said sales person was not getting back to me, then I started getting nervous. When he did finally get back to me, he "assured me I had no reason to be apprehensive"
We were given a quote which I was promised in writing would not spiral. We were told over the phone and in writing that the "price per CF would be lowered to prevent the price spiralling".
On the day of the move, once all our belongings were badly wrapped and loaded onto the truck, the quote was INCREASED BY ALMOST 50%! We were quoted a "concrete price of $4,800" ended up paying $9,397!!
Needless to say we never heard another word from the sales person.
The manager would not help me on the day, was uninterested, and the drivers wouldn't leave until we'd paid. We had flights to our new state the next day so had no choice.
Our belongings took longer than quoted to arrive, and when they did arrive, we had many things damaged and missing items, including my husbands new guitar.
The inventory written up by the dispatch team on the day was inaccurate with items listed incorrectly, for example, a headboard was listed as a "lamp". A large rug was listed as "a small soft thing"
The manager of the company refused to talk to us and had his staff just keep brushing us off.
We intend to take this further legally as we are down several thousand pounds without so much as an apology.
This company should be avoided at all costs. Even the drivers seemed to agree the company are crooks and that "this happens all the time". I quote "2 bed apartments are always allocated 900CF and end up 1,500 / 1,600CF, they do it all the time"
The worst company I've ever personally dealt with. We also were told they do not outsource which is another lie. The drivers who delivered our stuff were not employed by State To State.
Really upsetting and financially harming experience.

Long-distance move from Brooklyn, NY to Bend, OR

Avoid! Dishonest.

This rating should be a minus 5. Please read entire post as it will save you, your stuff, & your money. This company is a scam. I am not sure how they have such a high ratings here. I can only think real customers aren't leaving reviews. The reviews on Yelp are terrible. I remember the driver prodding me to come here and give them a good review. Look for reviews for State to State in Jersey on Yelp, they are two names. They are SHADY! I didn't hire State to State Movers/ Relocation, but they were assigned to me by Assurance Van Line Services Inc, which is another company to AVOID! (They under quote you cubit feet and allow their independent moving contractors to over charge customers).

My alarms went off when State to State didn't show up in an official truck, but a rented Penske truck with two guys that looked like they just grabbed off the street. I wanted to send them away, but we were leaving in two days. My apt was a small 1 1/2 bedroom apt in Brooklyn. The driver (point person) of the truck came in, took one look, & said your stuff isn't going to fit into the cubic foot size you paid for. I explained Assurance Van Line Services Inc & I spent hours on the phone going over exactly what we had, our box & furniture sizes, all in great detail. That the cubic feet on the contract is exactly what they said we needed. We went back & forth, I then realized he didn't show up with my latest & finalized contract but an old one. If I wasn't on top of it we would have been duped even more. I had to pull up an email with the latest contract & call Assurance to fix the issue.

After all that I thought everything was handled. He went to the truck, looked & said well it still doesn't fit with the extra cubic feet that you have. Give me an extra $400 & I'll make sure everything fits. I told him don’t try to scam us, but my husband promised to tip his guys. During all this confusion the guys were putting our stuff on the truck. I noticed they weren't tagging some boxes & I asked them to, (after delivery we realized box #'s were missing, some had two numbers, & some didn't have any at all). The driver kept coming at us from many different angles with so many stories. Your boxes are too heavy, you have too much stuff, my boss won't be happy etc. We were so exhausted/upset that we ultimately made the call to leave some of our furniture because of his tricks, constantly changing his reasons/stories, and we still ended up paying extra $$'s. It was by far the most upsetting and exhausting experience I've ever had with a company.

On delivery we had broken furniture, their inventory list was all wrong & had no descriptions. It's a good thing that along with their numbering system, we made bright yellow name & location 6x9" tags for all our boxes, including the one that went missing. Some of our boxes were busted open, with broken items inside.

The worst part of this whole thing was the theft?/missing items. We received our stuff & noticed that one of our boxes was missing. This box was a recycled 60" TV box. We used the box for our picture frames as it was big. It had frames from family, as well as our wedding picture frame with pic & written messages from our guests. We had our flat screen TV in an unmarked Home Depot box. I remembered back that as soon as the guys arrived to pick up our stuff there was much talk about which box contained our TV. It seemed odd at the time, but things were so chaotic that I dropped it. The recycled TV box is missing, it was the biggest box in our shipment & not hard to spot with a bright yellow sticker with our names on it. We are thinking someone thought it was our TV and took it.

When I called the state to state office the day after delivery. The office admin seemed quite unconcerned & immediately said you'll have to file a claim. I said I'd love to have our box back because of it's contents. She said they'd check the warehouse. Well, I've called for months & I always get the same answer no they didn't find anything— all said without much regard, as if she 'knows'. We looked at the claims process & it's ridiculous. You need pictures of items lost, receipts of when you bought each item (god forbid it could be a gift), plus a whole list of other things. We later found out that every person whose items were shipped on our truck lost stuff.

The delivery guys were a team from the midwest & dropped & rolling our boxes. People's belongings are being transferred from truck to truck. State to State is in New Jersey but the delivery guys said that our stuff was taken to them and then they drove from the midwest to the West Coast. No wonder they come damaged. State to State also charges $75 if they have to climb more than 7 steps. A flight has 12 or 13 steps, so you are guaranteed to pay that amount if you have an upstairs level. We paid the delivery driver & they had us sign a receipt. Well, they conveniently forgot to leave the receipt, so there is no record of payment.

In addition to all that, they also didn't honor a two week storage extension on our contract, and haven't called us back once as they say they would.

A $1700 quote to ship our stuff turned into a $2700 Bill. Moving states is stressful, going with this company will make your experience HELLISH. AVOID!!

This is a SCAM company please be aware & don't even waste your time They aren't even worth a star..Christian Overbi is a complete Liar. Long-distance move from New Jersey to Alabama

Poor residential move.

This move was the worst of 12 moves we have made over the last 20 years. First the salesman Frank Cohen promised things that never came to fruition, such as full packing, true and actual cost of the move, and company owned trucks. All the while we talked over a week he stressed there honesty. With witnesses around on moving day 11-21-14 he changed his story 4 times. Part owner Leo does not provide great customer service as he is rude and plays a game with the customer thru his workers in the field who have to take the heat from the customer after prices and services change. Alfonso who was on the job as foreman was very rude and 1st thing in the door said the price had to go from 6400 to 9000 and Frank and I agreed on 6400 to match other companies. But he always stressed honesty. Ya right. Very poor packing as a $1500.00 patio fire pit destroyed, paid for garment boxes and all boxes had clothes thrown in from top to bottom with few hanging. They were thrown in and pressed down tight with damage. Truck leaked water whunch caused damage to boxes and stains on furniture. Would not recommend this company to move a junkyard much less personal belongings from a home. The last driver Mike and his crew of unloaders were excellent and truly felt bad for us but damage was already done.

Long-distance move from Ohio to Michigan

Took an accurate estimate and made it 2.5x too low.

They were my broker. The website I used to do the innital inventory came up with the right answer 5,000 lbs. These guys asked too few questions and made the quote 2,400 lbs. and they did not mention when my stuff would be delivered. I thought it was a 270 mile direct move. The paperwork did not say anything.
The movers State to State selected, Integrated Moving Solutions (New Jersey) showed up 22 hours late, with various stories and ETAs during those 22 hours. State to State said I could pay half with a personal check. The driver that showed up said they would hold my stuff 7 business days if I did not have the CASH (which was 2.5x what was expected).. If I would have happened to have $1440 cash in my wallet, I could have my stuff in 2 days. They also wanted the check made out to the drivers personal name, not the driver that finally showed up, but the driver that failed to show up. I refused. I hired a company, not a person. I don't have my stuff yet.
I left them emails to contact me early Monday, its Wednesday and they have not answered.

Long-distance move from New York, NY to Beachwood, OH

Moving.

Under no circumstances should you hire this organization. I could go through and discuss how terrible my move was, but much of what this organization did has been covered by the other reviews. I will be brief and say that this is not a real company. When I called the Better Business Bureau, the person with whom I spoke stated that this is a "rogue mover". It does not provide quality service or respond to Better Business Bureau complaints. It then sets itself up under a new name after a few years. When moving, always try to get a referral from a friend and check with the Better Business Bureau.

Long-distance move from North Carolina to New Jersey

Dont do It!

I have never dealt with such unprofessionalism. Customer service is a joke. I spoke to a woman who sounded as though she was being tickled and cleaning the house at the same time. Communication is very scattered and minimal at best. Do NOT count on paying what they quote you. Once they have your belongings you are obligated to whatever price they come up with. My drivers were confused on charges, every time I called state to state, they raised the price. I stopped calling when my final payment hit $750. (That's just the FINAL payment). Some damage to belongings. The drivers are very nice, but they should boycott being contracted from such a shiesty business as state to state is. Also, your final payment (at delivery) has to be in post office money order OR cash. This is because so many people stop payment on that last payment after they get their stuff back. Hmmmmmm that's a good sign your business sucks.
